THEATER DESIGN

Designing a system for your space represents an exciting opportunity to help you create a truly unique entertainment area.

So where do we start? First we need to know where in the house are we. Are we in the great room with windows and a fireplace and a very open architecture? Or are we in a dedicated room to be used for viewing movies, sports, and (yes) video games? Second we need to know how and when you want to use each of these very different types of environments, as each can truly have a great entertainment system for the whole family.

Once we know steps one and two above then I can proceed one of two ways. I can give you a shopping list with a bunch of product numbers and specs, or I can explain all that’s involved in putting together a truly great system that’s easy to use. I could skip going over the basics but I feel you should at least be aware of what’s involved and then you can decide how much of the information you want to use. As a matter of fact, in my system design I will list separately the important basics needed just like the appetizers, entrees, and desserts at a smorgasbord. Then you can decide which parts of the puzzle you want to go with now. If we work smart, we can provide an upgrade path to add the other parts later and still end up with a complete picture.

In order of importance the main components of a great design are: the room - the seating- the lighting - the screen/projector or TV- acoustic treatment - system control -the audio gear- Of course the system will also need high quality interfaces, installation, and calibration. The design order I have listed may seem unusual at first, but if we follow this decision pattern step by step will we end up with a truly great entertainment experience. Remember, in terms of quality, aesthetics, and ease of use, a properly designed system will out perform a much more expensive system with no design.
